Bust of Taras Shevchenko

Monument to the famous Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko found at the intersection of Prospect Street and Shevchenko Dostyk in Almaty. Bust of granite height of 3.5 meters created a group of Ukrainian sculptors, headed by Vitaly made Rozhik. The bust was installed in the city of Almaty in honor of the 9th anniversary of Ukraine's independence in 2000.

Taras Shevchenko - Ukrainian poet, novelist, artist of the first half of the XIX century. Writer's literary heritage is the foundation of modern Ukrainian literature and Ukrainian literary language.

In 1847-1857 years of Taras Shevchenko, lived in western Kazakhstan in exile. Here he was sent for his satirical poem "Dream" and the attitude to the St. Cyril Myafodzіeўskіya society "under the strict supervision of the authorities," the prohibition to write and draw.
